Invented by Walt Disney and used extensively by Hitchcock, Kurosawa and Spielberg, storyboards have been an important tool in realizing a director’s filmic vision. This day-long will explore the art of storyboarding through lectures, screenings and illustrated examples. Not only will the cinematic conventions, such as the 180-degree rule, etc. be discussed but, composition, art direction and design. There will also be observations on how these affect the context, subtext and performance in a shot or sequence. Students are asked to bring a sketchbook, pens and three colored pencils (red, blue and green are recommended).
