Before you turn on your HD or video camera, it is important to understand the properties of video leading up to HD. In this course, your will learn how the image is converted to an electrical signal; how a CCD works; how the NTSC signal works and how to read it on a waveform monitor and vectorscope. What is gamma? What is white balance? What is IRE? What is the SMPTE color bar and what are its uses? What is the difference between NTSC and PAL? What is the difference between analog and digital signals? Learn how to calibrate a monitor and how to calibrate a camera using the gray scale.
Other topics will include: progressive and interlaced scans, 720P and 1080I, sampling rates and ratios, (4,1,1-4,2,2-4,4,4), quantization, aspect ratios (4:3: 16:9), different HD formats, picture rates (24fps), types of pulldown, camera alignment, white shading, color temperature, pedestal, flare, genlock, and time code.
